On 20th June 2023, Bargain Basement, a social enterprise retail shop, received a fantastic opportunity to showcase our work at the CEDAR's (Centre of Entrepreneur Development and Research) 10th-year anniversary. As special guests of the event, the team interacted with the VVIP, YB Datuk Ewon Benedick, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives of Malaysia, and YBhg. Dato' Sri Suriani binti Dato' Ahmad, Secretary General of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and presented our purpose and activities.
The mission of Bargain Basement is to promote sustainable shopping behavior, by selling second-hand products at affordable prices while creating a charity fund for the community. We believe that our business model serves the dual purposes of environmental conservation and social welfare. Being recognized at such a crucial event is a testament to the good work done by Bargain Basement.
CEDAR is an organization that focuses on the development of entrepreneurship in Malaysia, and its 10th-year anniversary was a significant milestone. The event was a platform for entrepreneurs and social enterprises to get a chance to showcase their endeavors, collaborate, and network with industry experts. For Bargain Basement, this event was the perfect opportunity to showcase social enterprise, create awareness about our mission and vision, and network with other entrepreneurs. The presence of the Minister himself was an added boost, and the team is grateful for the recognition.
In conclusion, social enterprises like Bargain Basement serve as a bridge between entrepreneurs, marginalized communities, and the government sectors. Our model of doing business can create a significant impact on the economy and aid in sustainable development. Opportunities like the CEDAR's 10th-anniversary help such enterprises gain recognition and we welcome more such initiatives in the future.
