Art is all around us, yet it is so often underrated especially for students, where more emphasis is placed on business and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects. Generally, there is less scholarship opportunities for art students and this is where Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng (Yayasan TSLSC) has heeded the call for help by contributing RM100,000 to the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) for their scholarship programme. MIA Chief Executive Officer Dr Lok Lay Hong warmly welcomed our visit and on behalf of the institute, she expressed her gratitude to Yayasan TSLSC for their support. Throughout the visit, Datin Joanne Wong learnt and witnessed amazing artworks by budding artists and talents at MIA. Founded in 1967, MIA started as a non-profit organisation and has since transformed into an educational institution offering a diverse range of diploma courses in the field of art, design and music across three campuses.
Our Yayasan TSLSC Executive Director Datin Joanne Wong (middle) had the opportunity to meet both Ms Lee Wei Tsing (left) and Ms Tan See Yin (right) who received RM25,000 each to complete their Interior Design Diploma. The remaining RM50,000 will be awarded to two other second-year students in Graphic Design.
